Die Once, Born Again
Great Five is the main robot of Hikari Sentai Maskman, the 1987 Super Sentai series. It is assembled from the Maskman’s five individual mecha, with each machine corresponding to one of the team’s members and their specialized combat abilities. Great Five has a heavily armored appearance that matches the show’s emphasis on martial arts, Super…
Miki Yanagi’s Sela has a cool and elegant visual style. As the shark-themed member of Zyuohger, she had a distinctive identity that separated her from Amu. Sela’s appeal also comes from her confidence. She is more straightforward and competitive, giving Yanagi a chance to portray a heroine with a stronger, more athletic personality.
Rika Sato’s Eri is one of the two central female members of Goseiger. Her elegant appearance worked especially well with the show’s angelic theme. Eri is also a warm and compassionate character. Sato gave her enough personality that she felt like a full member of the team rather than simply the designated pink heroine.
Knowing that Setsuna is artificially created only creates another mystery: what was his intended purpose? Was he designed simply to be a soldier, or was he created specifically because his universe needed someone capable of becoming Gavan? The answer could also explain Setsuna’s personality and his initial hostility toward Reiji. If he was programmed or…
RV Robo is the principal robot of Gekisou Sentai Carranger, the 1996 season built around automobiles and parodying aspects of Super Sentai conventions. It combines the team’s five automobile-themed vehicles into a robot with a distinctly automotive silhouette. RV Robo uses the RV Sword and other vehicle-based weapons while fighting the Bowzock’s giant monsters. Although…
The Quitter is one of those episodes from that old nineties show that really stays with you because it changes up the whole vibe of the team. Usually you see these four Beverly Hills kids working together to fight off whatever rubber monster Emperor Gorganus sends down to Earth, but this time around, the evil…
Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills was always a wild ride back in the nineties, but the eighth episode titled Commitments really shows how the writers could cook up something special out of pure cheese. The whole setup is hilarious because you have this giant glowing blob named Nimbar running low on juice, and…
Zyuoh King is the main robot of Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger, released in 2016. It is formed from three Cube Animals, typically Cube Eagle, Cube Shark, and Cube Giraffe, creating a highly geometric robot. The cube concept gives Zyuoh King an unusual appearance compared with earlier animal-themed robots because the component animals transform into block-shaped mechanical…
Even after individual criminals and villains are defeated, the larger question remains: who is ultimately responsible for the multiversal crisis? The series’ episodic investigations could be building toward an enemy who understands the entire structure of the multiverse. That enemy might not even consider the Gavans to be the main threat. They could instead be…
Every large organization has a history, and the Galaxy Federal Police may have experienced major events that have been hidden from current officers. Previous Emorgear disasters, failed dimensional missions, or encounters with other Gavans could have shaped modern G.F.P. policy. The fact that different universes have their own versions of Gavan suggests that the organization…
